DIY Felt Tree for Kids - 12 DIYS of Christmas

Updated: Dec 3, 2020

On the first day of Christmas my true love made for me....

If you're looking for something to keep your kiddos' hands busy this season and off of your precious and delicate ornaments, this is the DIY for you. You can find trees like this on Amazon for a decent price but if you're looking to save even more money, use up what you have, or even do a project together with your older kids, this is a great option for you.

I found everything I needed at Hobby Lobby. This large piece of green felt came pre-packaged and was on the isle with the individual felt sheets but you can also buy felt by the yard in the fabric section. Each sheet of colored felt only cost $0.33 and I only ended up using 7 half sheets so I have lots left over for future projects!

The most important thing about this project is that I was able to complete it from start to finish in ONE NAP TIME!

I used a cookie cutter to trace my gingerbread men and free handed the candy canes. I made the animal cookies with leftover materials from my DIY ornaments (coming soon!) and used a cup to trace the circles.

I cut all of these shapes by hand but if you have a Cricut Maker you could use that as well. I just got one (literally yesterday) as an early birthday present from my parents and I can't wait to use up some of the extra felt I have to cut out more shapes for this tree!

I hung Natalie's tree in my craft room where there is always something that she shouldn't be touching as a diversion! I placed a little spare basket on the floor for her to keep the ornaments in as she puts them on and takes them off!

Pro tip- if you have a dog, you may want to also keep a lint roller nearby!

Don't forget to follow me on IG and tag me if you enjoy any of these DIYS with your family this season!
